Chelsea is prepared to spend £50M to acquire RB Leipzig’s star player this summer.
The club has shown a strong interest in signing Dani Olmo but must act quickly to activate his release clause. The RB Leipzig midfielder has been a standout player in EURO 2024, despite starting only three of Spain’s six matches. The 26-year-old scored the decisive goal in the 2-1 semi-final victory over France. Overall, Olmo has netted three goals and provided two assists during the tournament.
Last year, Olmo extended his contract with RB Leipzig until 2027, including a £50m release clause. According to The Mirror, several Premier League teams are eyeing the midfielder, with Chelsea showing the most interest.
If new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca wants to secure Olmo’s transfer, the London club must move swiftly. Olmo’s release clause is only valid until Monday, the day after the EURO 2024 final in Berlin. After this deadline, Leipzig could raise their asking price to between £60m and £70m.
In a pre-tournament interview with Mundo Deportivo, Olmo discussed his future, stating, “I’m very calm and focused solely on EURO 2024. It’s exciting to see my name associated with top clubs in Europe and worldwide.”
Following Spain’s win over France, Olmo told reporters, “We are very close now, just one step away from glory. We planned the game well and, despite conceding, responded effectively with Lamine Yamal’s spectacular goal and my own. In the second half, we managed to control the game.”
