SHOCKING NEWS from Old Trafford: Manchester United’s latest update on Matthijs de Ligt has fans in disbelief!
Manchester United has shared unfortunate news about Matthijs de Ligt’s head injury.
Erik ten Hag revealed that the team used the perceived “injustice” of Ethan Pinnock’s goal as motivation to stage their comeback against Brentford.
Pinnock scored from a header during first-half stoppage time after de Ligt had to leave the field for treatment on a head injury. Despite only having dried blood on his head, referee Sam Barrott ordered de Ligt to leave the pitch just before Brentford’s corner, a decision that both Ten Hag and Ruud van Nistelrooy contested.
Their protests led to penalties, with Ten Hag expressing frustration over the call, stating, “It was just dried blood, Matthijs had already been treated. No one understood why he had to leave.”
De Ligt himself was confused by the referee’s decision, as Ten Hag noted, “He told me it was only dried blood. We were all puzzled by it.” The manager emphasized how frustrating it was to concede from such a situation, especially knowing Brentford’s strength in set pieces.
This sense of unfairness may have driven United’s second-half resurgence, with Alejandro Garnacho leveling the score shortly after the break and Rasmus Hojlund netting the winning goal in the 62nd minute, moving United up to eighth in the Premier League standings.
Despite the team’s recent scoring struggles, with a drought of 317 minutes without a goal, Ten Hag remains confident that the main challenge this season has been converting chances. Hojlund, now fully recovered from a pre-season hamstring injury, has scored in two of his three starts.
