INJURY UPDATE ON TWO PROMISING MIDFIELDERS: They’re BACK on the Grass!

“Back on Grass” – Manchester United Provides Injury Updates on Two First-Team Midfielders

Manchester United’s promising young midfielder, Dan Gore, is expected to recover from his injury within a few “weeks,” while Toby Collyer has resumed training on the grass pitches.

Both Gore and Collyer have debuted for the first team and are considered among the top midfield talents to emerge from the academy in recent years. Recently, however, they have been absent from senior matches and Under-21 games due to minor, non-severe injuries.

Gore missed the beginning of the season after sustaining a shoulder injury during the summer. Shortly after his return, he encountered another issue. On Tuesday evening, Travis Binnion provided an update, indicating that Gore is likely to be fit again in just a few weeks.

According to the Manchester Evening News on November 1, Collyer was projected to be out for approximately a month, but he is now on track to return following the international break. After updating on Gore, Binnion mentioned that Collyer has been training on the grass at Carrington this week, hinting at his imminent return to matchday action.

“He’ll be back… soon. Days, weeks… it’s a short period,” Binnion commented on Gore’s situation. “It’s a minor injury, and he’s been a bit unlucky, similar to Sekou Kone tonight. When returning, players are most vulnerable, so he needs to focus on getting games, maintaining fitness, and he’ll be in good shape.”

Binnion also added, “Toby Collyer has resumed grass training this week, which is encouraging. These players are talented; they need to regain their fitness, stay healthy, and positively contribute to the club.”

Additionally, Tyrell Malacia made his first competitive appearance in 517 days for the Under-21s against Huddersfield Town. Binnion praised Malacia’s professionalism and dedication within the squad.

“He’s worked incredibly hard to come back, trained diligently, and appears strong and fit. His attitude towards his teammates has been exemplary,” Binnion remarked. “He approached the game correctly, so we hope he continues to improve because we definitely need him and he deserves some luck.”

Tyrell Malacia’s Return

Malacia rejoined the squad as United’s Under-21 team suffered a 4-1 defeat to Huddersfield, resulting in their elimination from the EFL Trophy at the group stage. Despite the loss, Binnion remained positive about the lessons the young players gained during the competition.

“I felt it was a fairly balanced match for the first hour,” he stated. “We performed well, but Huddersfield posed a constant threat, especially since they fielded eight first-team players from the weekend. They are expected to secure promotion from League One, making it our toughest match so far. In the last 30 minutes, they dominated and took the lead.”

“We struggled to keep up in the final phase, and the substitutions we made didn’t influence the game as we had hoped. It’s challenging for new players to change the game against a team that’s on the rise. We also altered our formation, but it didn’t make the desired impact.”

“They earned the victory, and it was a valuable learning experience for our players across the three EFL Trophy matches. We had five points before tonight and, considering the international break, facing Huddersfield was always a significant challenge. We aim to seize these opportunities.”

“These matches are our most important games. Without a B team system like those in continental clubs, we rely heavily on these fixtures, which is why we’re disappointed to have been knocked out.”

“Comparing these games to our international cup matches against Hertha Berlin and PSV, they felt similar to tonight’s game and are quite different from the Under-21 program. We recognize that, and we want those international games because they offer great learning experiences. Sometimes we fall short, but that’s the point. If we underperform tonight, something isn’t right. League clubs handle it well, and it’s a chance to reach Wembley.”

“It’s an opportunity to win trophies, and Michael Duff is an excellent manager. Huddersfield has been strong throughout their group matches, showing a clear desire to advance to the knockout stages, which they have achieved.”
