“From Teammates to Tactics: A Defender’s Last Stand at Manchester United?!”
Lindelof Aims to Secure Spot in Amorim’s Manchester United Plans
Victor Lindelof, pictured in a defensive wall alongside teammates Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro, remains optimistic about his future role at Manchester United despite uncertainties surrounding his contract situation.
The Swedish defender, whose current deal with United expires at the end of the season, has admitted he is not overly preoccupied with thoughts of what lies ahead.
During the summer transfer window, United were reportedly keen to sell the 30-year-old, actively seeking to facilitate his departure. However, a late toe injury sustained during pre-season hindered any potential transfer.
Now entering the final months of his contract, Lindelof has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with AC Milan emerging as a potential suitor. Nevertheless, the player insists he is focused on the present and isn’t dwelling on the speculation surrounding his future.
“I don’t think much about it,” Lindelof shared with Fotbolldirekt. “My main focus has been recovering from injury and getting back to playing football. Naturally, there will be discussions now since I’m in the final year of my contract.”
Lindelof, who is expected to feature for Sweden in their UEFA Nations League clash against Slovakia on Saturday, is determined to carve out a place under Manchester United’s new head coach, Ruben Amorim.
“My priority is always to contribute to the team,” he explained. “I’ve made a full return, playing 90 minutes for United, which has been a positive step. The situation is different for me now.”
Interestingly, Lindelof shares a history with Amorim, despite being nine years his junior. The pair played together at Benfica, including a Taca de Portugal third-round match in October 2013, where Amorim captained the side. Reflecting on that time, Lindelof remarked, “I was very young then, and we didn’t interact much off the pitch, but I’ve heard wonderful things about him as a coach. It will be exciting to reconnect after all these years.”
As Lindelof focuses on his performances and future prospects, his ambition to impress Amorim and secure a role in United’s plans remains clear.
