Pep Guardiola BREAKS SILENCE on SCRATCHES and STRUGGLING Man City Form

Pep Guardiola Addresses Facial Scratches After Concerning Post-Match Comments

Pep Guardiola has provided clarification regarding remarks he made following Manchester City’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Feyenoord on Tuesday evening.

The 53-year-old manager appeared visibly upset as his team squandered a commanding three-goal lead in just 15 minutes, extending their difficult run of form.

The result leaves City sitting 15th in the Champions League group stage standings, having already dropped points against Inter Milan and Sporting Lisbon earlier this season. The reigning Premier League champions are now winless in six consecutive matches, including five defeats.

Guardiola was seen with scratches on his nose and forehead during the post-match press conference. When questioned about the injuries, he explained their origin, saying:

“I scratched myself with my nail, accidentally.”

He went on to jokingly add that he had wanted to “hurt himself,” punctuating the comment with a laugh. The remark raised concerns, prompting Guardiola to clarify further.

Guardiola Responds to Concerns on Social Media

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Guardiola addressed his earlier comments in a statement:

“I was caught off guard by a question at the end of the press conference regarding a scratch on my face. I explained that it was caused accidentally by a sharp fingernail.

“My response was not intended to trivialize the serious issue of self-harm. I am deeply aware of the struggles many face with mental health and want to take this opportunity to raise awareness about available support. Anyone in need can contact the Samaritans hotline at 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org.”

Reflecting on the Match and Looking Ahead

Guardiola expressed his disappointment with his team’s defensive lapses but emphasized the players’ determination to improve:

“They are desperate to win; you can see it in the way they play,” he said. “We played well in many aspects, created numerous chances, and yet conceded three goals.

“This season, we’ve been uncharacteristically unstable defensively. For years, we’ve been a team that concedes very few goals, but now we’re struggling to close games. Even at 3-0 up, we allowed them back in.”

With a crucial trip to Anfield to face league leaders Liverpool looming on Sunday, Guardiola will be keen to find solutions. Manchester City currently trail Feyenoord by eight points in their group and will aim to reduce the gap in the coming fixtures.
