Chelsea’s £58M Goalkeeper Shock: Robert Sanchez OUT
Chelsea Weigh £58m Goalkeeper Move as Pressure Mounts on Robert Sanchez
Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is under scrutiny following recent performances, with speculation growing about the club’s interest in signing a new shot-stopper.
Manager Enzo Maresca, who initially affirmed Sanchez as his No. 1 choice despite summer signing Filip Jorgensen joining the squad, may soon reconsider his decision. Although Sanchez has retained the starting position despite several mistakes, Jorgensen is poised to make his second Premier League appearance over the festive period.
Jorgensen, who debuted in a midweek fixture against Southampton, could start against Fulham after Chelsea’s clash with Everton on Sunday. A strong performance from the Danish goalkeeper might challenge Sanchez’s role, though a different competitor could eventually take over.
According to German outlet *Bild*, Chelsea are targeting Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel. The Swiss international may be available for transfer if Dortmund fails to secure Champions League qualification, with a potential price tag of £58 million. Kobel, along with Porto’s Diogo Costa and AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, has been on Chelsea’s radar for some time.
However, Chelsea’s priorities in the January transfer window might extend beyond the goalkeeping position. Injuries to key defenders Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile have left Maresca with limited options at the back. Speaking in a press conference, Maresca confirmed the long-term absences of the duo, leaving Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Axel Disasi as the only fit center-backs.
This defensive shortage might push Chelsea to explore the market for reinforcements, though Renato Veiga, who has excelled as a makeshift center-back for Portugal, could offer a temporary solution.
