Mason Greenwood Joins Marseille

Mason Greenwood, 22, has officially transferred to Marseille on a five-year contract.

Manchester United’s statement announced: “Mason Greenwood has transferred to French club Olympique de Marseille on a permanent basis. The 22-year-old English forward, who spent last season on loan with Getafe in Spain, played 129 matches and scored 35 goals for United since his debut in 2019. We wish him success in his future endeavors.”

Marseille’s announcement (translated) stated: “Olympique de Marseille is thrilled to confirm the signing of Mason Greenwood from Manchester United. The 22-year-old forward has joined our club following a successful medical examination.

“Greenwood, who trained at Manchester United’s renowned academy, began his professional journey with the Red Devils during a Champions League round of 16 match against PSG in March 2019. At 17 years and 156 days old, he became the youngest player ever to wear Manchester United’s jersey in the Champions League.

“Known for his early talent, incredible speed, and exceptional dribbling, Greenwood quickly became a standout in England and across Europe. On May 12, 2019, the Bradford native set another record as the youngest player to start in a Premier League match for Manchester United, facing Cardiff City on the final day of the season.

“In 2021, Greenwood started in a Europa League final and secured the fifth spot in the Raymond Kopa Trophy rankings for the best under-21 player in the world.”
