BREAKING NEWS! Manchester United just got a SHOCKING new referee verdict after the highly controversial Everton VAR penalty decision!

Manchester United Benefit from VAR Decision as Everton’s Late Penalty is Overturned

Manchester United received a major reprieve after referee Andy Madley reversed his initial decision to award Everton a stoppage-time penalty at Goodison Park.

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean initially believed United had conceded a legitimate penalty in the closing moments of their 2-2 draw against Everton. However, after reviewing the incident on the pitchside VAR monitor, Madley ultimately overturned his decision, sparking frustration among the home side.

Ruben Amorim’s team endured a dreadful first half, trailing by two goals after strikes from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure. At halftime, former United defender Rio Ferdinand was highly critical of their performance.

Despite their struggles, United staged an impressive comeback, drawing level at 2-2 thanks to a well-placed free-kick from Bruno Fernandes and a stunning goal from Manuel Ugarte.

As the match neared its conclusion, United’s efforts to secure a winner nearly backfired when Madley awarded Everton a late penalty. Ashley Young went down inside the box following a challenge from Matthijs de Ligt, leading to the controversial call.

Initially, Dean felt the decision should stand, telling Sky Sports Soccer Saturday: “It shouldn’t be overturned. He’s exaggerated it, but there is a pull on the shirt.” However, he acknowledged Young’s dramatic fall, stating it didn’t align with the level of contact.

VAR official Matt Donohue advised Madley to review the footage, and after reassessment, the referee rescinded his original decision. While Everton’s players and fans expressed outrage, Dean later admitted that, after seeing more replays, the right call had been made.

“There’s minimal contact from De Ligt on Young, just a slight pull. But Young brings his feet together and goes down too easily. It’s not enough for a penalty—correct decision.”

The result sees Amorim’s side move to 30 points, keeping them in 15th place, one point behind Everton, who sit in 12th.
