Reflecting on Silva’s tenure, Terry noted how pivotal the Brazilian was since joining in 2020, helping Chelsea win the Champions League in the 2020-21 season. Despite Silva’s age, Terry insisted his influence and leadership are sorely missed, as the current defensive setup lacks the authority and experience that Silva brought.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Terry elaborated on Chelsea’s defensive vulnerabilities: “Without solid defenders, you may score goals, but you’ll leak them too, leading to dropped points.” He linked Chelsea’s defensive woes to their recent 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, expressing frustration with the team’s inconsistency.
Terry also touched on Chelsea’s up-and-down form under new manager Enzo Maresca. Despite a resounding 6-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Blues couldn’t carry that momentum into the Crystal Palace game.
