Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has shared his thoughts on which Premier League star he’d like to team up with, sparking speculation among football fans.
At just 17, Yamal has had a standout year, contributing to Spain’s victory in Euro 2024 and shining for his lifelong club, Barcelona. His choice of ideal future teammate, however, has raised a few eyebrows.
In a recent interview with Spanish radio station Radioestadio Noche, Yamal expressed his admiration for Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. His statement quickly ignited excitement among City fans who began imagining the potential partnership.
De Bruyne has been instrumental in setting up goals for striker Erling Haaland, and social media was soon buzzing with fans picturing a lineup featuring Yamal and De Bruyne. One fan on X (formerly Twitter) joked, “KDB and Yamal passing to Haaland—hat-tricks guaranteed!” Others speculated: “KDB, Yamal, Pedri, Raphinha, and Haaland—unstoppable!”
Some fans even encouraged Yamal to join City, with one suggesting, “Foden can play centrally, and with KDB and Yamal, we’d be set.”
However, any potential transfer is far from reality. Yamal remains dedicated to Barcelona, having extended his contract in October 2023, which ties him to the club until at least 2026. His release clause is a staggering €1 billion ($1.05bn), making any move highly unlikely in the near future.
Though the rumors persist, Yamal stays focused on his career at Barcelona. Former Barcelona coach Xavi praised him, stating: “He’s mature beyond his years—responsible, humble, and aware of the opportunity he has. He’s a player who could shape the future of the club.”
