Nico Williams Passes Arsenal Transfer Test with Brilliance
Arsenal has set its sights on Nico Williams as their top choice for a wide player.
Nico Williams is highly valued by Arsenal, particularly by manager Mikel Arteta, according to footballlondon. His outstanding performance in the Euro 2024 final and throughout the tournament has significantly boosted his reputation and attracted interest from clubs across Europe.
Barcelona is also keen on Williams, and it’s understood that he prefers a move to the Catalan club. This move would allow him to reunite with Spain teammate Lamine Yamal, rekindling their successful partnership from the Championships.
“It’s always encouraging to hear such things; it means I’m doing my job well. Every child dreams of catching the attention of big clubs,” said Williams during the tournament.
Regarding Barcelona’s interest, he added, “Right now, my focus is on performing well in the Euro Cup. I’ll deal with whatever comes next later because I’m currently completely disconnected.”
Williams’ versatility makes him an ideal fit for Arteta, who values players capable of performing in multiple positions. In the final against England, he even played on the right to support Yamal in outmaneuvering Luke Shaw, who was handling the teenager well.
Arsenal needs another wide player to support Bukayo Saka. However, with Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli already in the squad, many believe that investing in a right-sided left-footer, which Williams is not, would be more logical. This is why players like Leroy Sane and Johan Bakayoko have been considered.
Despite this, Williams’ impressive final performance against England could prompt Arsenal to solidify their interest. However, with Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, Fabio Vieira, and Emile Smith Rowe still in the team, some departures may be necessary.
Smith Rowe has already attracted a rejected bid from Fulham, and Marseille reportedly shows interest in Nketiah. These potential exits could generate the funds needed t
