Chelsea Reportedly Prepared to Pay Over €100 Million for Liverpool Transfer Target
Chelsea are allegedly willing to spend over €100 million to secure Jamie Gittens, a player also linked with Liverpool. According to Bild’s Michael Makus, the young English talent has been on the radar of several top European clubs in recent months.
The report claims that Chelsea are ready to make Gittens their next marquee signing, offering Borussia Dortmund €100 million for the 20-year-old winger. However, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly in the race to sign the England Under-21 star, with all three clubs known to be long-time admirers of the former Manchester City youth prospect.
Borussia Dortmund has a strong track record of developing and selling top English players, such as Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham, for significant profits. Gittens appears poised to follow in their footsteps as the Bundesliga club’s next high-profile export.
Gittens, who previously trained with the youth setups at Chelsea, Reading, and Manchester City, joined Borussia Dortmund in 2020. Since then, he has made significant strides, becoming a standout player for the German club. In 76 senior appearances for Dortmund, the winger has scored 12 goals and contributed 13 assists. This season, he has particularly impressed, registering seven goals and four assists in 18 games. His current contract runs until 2028.

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has hailed Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk as the best defender in the world. Drogba, who netted 164 goals and delivered 81 assists in 381 appearances for Chelsea, was one of the most prolific strikers of his era.
In an interview with GOAL, Drogba was asked to identify the greatest defender of all time and the best defender currently. He selected Franz Beckenbauer as his all-time pick and named van Dijk as the standout defender of today. Quoting Drogba, as reported by TBR Football:
“Wow, it is difficult for me to say, but I’ll go with van Dijk.”
Van Dijk has been instrumental in Liverpool’s success since his £75 million transfer from Southampton in January 2018. To date, he has made 287 appearances for the Reds and played a pivotal role in securing eight major trophies for the club.
