FODEN’S £375,000-A-WEEK CONTRACT: A Bittersweet Moment for Manchester City
Man City Set to Offer Record-Breaking Contract to Phil Foden as Defender Eyes Exit
Phil Foden has had an outstanding year, prompting Manchester City to propose a groundbreaking long-term contract.
According to reports, Manchester City plans to offer Phil Foden a British record contract worth £375,000 per week.
Foden, 24, has had a remarkable season at the Etihad Stadium, earning the title of Premier League Player of the Season after scoring 27 goals and providing 12 assists in 53 club appearances. Additionally, he is expected to play a significant role in England’s Euro 2024 campaign.
Although Foden has three years remaining on his current City contract and there are no indications of his desire to leave, the club is keen to secure his future by offering a lucrative new deal to fend off any potential suitors as his importance to the first team grows.
The report suggests that City will propose a six-year contract and initiate talks before the new season begins. It’s anticipated that Manchester City might part ways with several players in the next year to manage the wage bill.
One player who might be leaving soon is left-back Sergio Gomez. Spanish outlet Diario AS reports that Real Sociedad is interested in Gomez after deciding not to activate the buy-out clause for Arsenal loanee Kieran Tierney.
According to the report, Sociedad’s sporting directors have traveled to Manchester to finalize the deal quickly, potentially before the end of June. Since joining in 2022, Gomez has struggled for playing time, starting only 14 of his 38 appearances, with just two starts in the Premier League.
