HUGE BOOST FOR MAN CITY! Tottenham’s plans are in tatters ahead of Saturday’s massive Premier League clash at the Etihad!
Tottenham Faces Midfield Setback Ahead of Man City Clash as FA Sanction Confirmed
Tottenham Hotspur will be without Rodrigo Bentancur for their upcoming Premier League match against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium this Saturday, as the midfielder has been handed a seven-match suspension.
The 27-year-old Uruguayan international was sanctioned by the Football Association (FA) following allegations of using a racial slur directed at teammate Son Heung-min during the summer. In addition to the ban, Bentancur has been fined £100,000.
The incident stems from comments Bentancur made about Son during an interview on Uruguayan television. While the midfielder later apologized to Son, stating he had no intention of being offensive, the FA charged him in September with misconduct under rule E3 for his remarks.
After a hearing, an independent regulatory commission ruled against Bentancur, leading to the ban and fine. In a statement, the FA confirmed: “Rodrigo Bentancur denied this charge, but the independent regulatory commission found it to be proven and imposed his sanctions following a hearing.”
The seven-match suspension applies exclusively to domestic games, sidelining Bentancur for six Premier League fixtures and Tottenham’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester United in December. However, he remains eligible to play in the Europa League.
Bentancur, who has made 15 appearances for Spurs this season and scored once, has been a key figure in the team’s campaign, featuring in 10 of their first 11 Premier League matches. Domestically, he will next be available for selection on Boxing Day when Spurs take on Nottingham Forest.
