Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has voiced his dissatisfaction with his reduced playing time under Mikel Arteta this season. Despite Arsenal’s busy schedule of 16 matches across competitions, the Brazilian has only started five games—two in the League Cup—and logged 480 minutes of action, equivalent to just over five full matches.
In the Premier League, Jesus has been limited to one start and just 39 minutes of play in the past month. While he started both of Arsenal’s League Cup victories and two Champions League games, he was benched for their recent loss to Inter Milan, coming on at halftime but unable to prevent a second consecutive defeat. Arsenal’s scoring struggles have also been apparent, with the team failing to find the net in half of their last six matches.
Jesus, 27, has only one goal and one assist this season, both coming in a 3-0 League Cup win over Preston North End. Speaking to TNT Sports Brasil, the forward expressed his desire for more opportunities without causing internal conflict at the club.
“I believe not only me, but all players want more minutes,” Jesus stated. “I’m never going to create problems in the club. I’ll continue to work hard in training and aim to make an impact whenever I get a chance to play. My current situation isn’t ideal, but I trust that things will improve through dedication and effort.”
He emphasized his commitment to improving and contributing to the team, acknowledging the intense competition for places in Arsenal’s squad. Despite his frustrations, Jesus maintains confidence in his abilities and is determined to prove his worth, starting with a hopeful appearance in Sunday’s match against Chelsea.
In terms of playing time, Jesus has seen slightly more action than teammates such as Jorginho, Raheem Sterling, Jakub Kiwior, and Oleksandr Zinchenko. Others like academy graduates Ethan Nwaneri and Miles Lewis-Skelly have also had fewer minutes. Players recovering from injuries, such as Mikel Merino, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Martin Ødegaard, have similarly been limited.
While Arteta faces tough decisions in managing a competitive squad, Jesus remains committed to earning more opportunities through persistenceand hard work.
