Latest Chelsea update following Mauricio Pochettino’s exit by mutual agreement after a sixth-place finish in the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino has departed from his position at Chelsea by mutual consent.
The Argentine manager has addressed his unexpected exit from Stamford Bridge after just one season. Chelsea secured a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, ensuring they will participate in European competitions next season.
During Pochettino’s tenure, Chelsea reached the finals of both the League Cup and the FA Cup, although they were defeated in both. He has now released a statement on the club’s website discussing his departure.
“Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for allowing me to be a part of this club’s history. The Club is now well-positioned to continue progressing in the Premier League and Europe in the coming years,” he stated.
The club also announced the departure of Pochettino’s coaching team, including Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and Sebastiano Pochettino.
Sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley commented: “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to thank Mauricio for his contributions this season. He will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge, and we wish him all the best in his future coaching endeavors.”
Reflecting on his future after the final game against Bournemouth, the former Tottenham manager said: “I am unsure about what the future holds.
“I have no information about this. All I can share is that on Friday night, Todd [Boehly] invited me for dinner, which was very pleasant. But I am not aware of any review rumors.
“My staff are going on holiday tomorrow. I will stay in London for a few more days. I remain open to possibilities. My phone will be on.”
Regarding the dinner with Boehly, he added: “I won’t go into details. Just know that I dined with him. If I invite you for dinner, it’s not for negative reasons. I don’t believe it would be.”
Pochettino managed Chelsea in 51 games last season, achieving 26 wins with a 50.90 percent win rate.
