Jamal Musiala reveals Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee has been encouraging him to join Old Trafford

Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala recently shared that Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has been playfully trying to convince him to make the move to Old Trafford. Zirkzee, who signed for the Red Devils this summer after a successful stint with Bologna in Italy, has been pushing for the switch.

Manchester United invested around £206 million in the summer transfer window (according to Sky Sports) as they aim to reclaim their dominance in English football. The club has seen significant changes both on and off the field, with plans for more improvements on the horizon.

Dutch striker Zirkzee, 23, joined Manchester United as their new attacking option and made an immediate impact, scoring the winning goal in his debut against Fulham. Off the pitch, he’s also been busy. According to Musiala, his former teammate from Bayern Munich, Zirkzee reached out to him over the summer, trying to coax him into joining United.

In an interview with German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, Musiala said, as reported by Sport Witness:

“We always joke around and talk about playing together one day. I told Josh he should come back to Bayern as well. It’s all just fun, nothing to be taken seriously.”

Musiala is regarded as one of the top young midfielders globally and recently finished second, behind Jude Bellingham, in the race for the 2023 Golden Boy award. His talents are well known at Manchester United, having assisted in Bayern’s 4-3 victory over the Red Devils in the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League group stage.

Musiala’s future has been a topic of discussion, especially since his contract with Bayern expires in 2026. The midfielder, who was once part of Chelsea’s academy, has also attracted interest from Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s summer signing, Manuel Ugarte, made his first appearance of the 2024-25 season for Uruguay in their CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup qualifier against Paraguay. The 23-year-old midfielder played 79 minutes in the 0-0 draw, despite United manager Erik ten Hag previously suggesting Ugarte needed time to regain fitness.

Ugarte’s performance could give Ten Hag additional midfield options, particularly with Casemiro’s recent dip in form. Manchester United’s next fixture is an away match against Southampton on September 14.
