Two top-tier league footballers have been detained on suspicion of sexual assault, raising serious concerns within the sporting community.
Two Premier League footballers were recently taken into custody on suspicion of rape, according to a report from The Sun on Tuesday evening. The identities of these individuals, both aged 19, as well as their respective clubs, have not been disclosed.
One of the players was detained at a stadium over the weekend for questioning regarding an alleged assault and involvement in a rape incident. Following initial inquiries, he was allowed to leave the stadium. However, he was subsequently formally arrested, spent a night in custody, and underwent further interrogation. The second player was apprehended the next day on suspicion of rape.
The reported incident of rape is said to have occurred on a Friday night. Both suspects have been released on bail while law enforcement continues its investigation.
A police spokesperson confirmed the arrests, stating, “Officers have apprehended two men following a report of rape. A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape. A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both individuals have since been released on police bail.”
As of now, it remains unclear whether the football club has taken any disciplinary actions against the implicated players. A club spokesperson mentioned, “Given that the matter is now the subject of a police inquiry, the Football Club will refrain from making further comments at this stage.”
