UNITED’S SECRET GIFT FOR BERGE: You Won’t Believe the Legendary Number He’ll Wear!

Manchester United Can Offer Sander Berge the Perfect Welcome with Ideal Squad Number

If Manchester United successfully sign Burnley midfielder Sander Berge, they could offer him a coveted squad number at Old Trafford.

Berge, who joined Sheffield United in 2020, was once regarded as a promising talent for the club. However, after being relegated with Burnley last season, the 26-year-old has yet to fully realize his potential in the Premier League. Despite this, Manchester United remain interested in the Norwegian midfielder. Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth reports that United have begun initial discussions with Burnley regarding a possible transfer.

With Berge still having three years left on his contract at Turf Moor, United are assessing the terms of a potential deal. Given Burnley’s recent relegation, United may hope to secure Berge for a reduced fee.

Should the transfer be completed, United could offer Berge the vacant No.4 shirt, a number he would likely appreciate. The shirt was left unclaimed after Sofyan Amrabat’s loan spell ended, and it holds significant historical value, having been worn by club legends like Nemanja Vidic, Steve Bruce, and Nobby Stiles. Although Berge has never worn the No.4 shirt—opting for No.16 at Burnley and No.8 at Sheffield United—being given this number at United would be a notable honor.

Earlier this summer, United decided not to exercise the purchase option in Amrabat’s loan deal from Fiorentina, leaving the No.4 shirt available. This makes it the perfect squad number for Berge, should he make the move to Old Trafford.
