Sir Jim Ratcliffe is eager to sell two Manchester United players who are currently on “overpriced deals.”
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly eager to make changes within Manchester United by looking to offload two high-profile players with ‘inflated contracts’.
A recent statement released on the club’s official website announced Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of 25% of the club’s Class B shares and 25% of the Class A shares through Trawlers Limited, his wholly-owned entity.
This move grants Ratcliffe and his INEOS team control over footballing matters, while the Glazers continue to oversee the commercial side of the club.
Looking towards the upcoming summer transfer window, Ratcliffe’s team aims to reduce the club’s wage bill by parting ways with players on what they deem as overly lucrative contracts.
Among those targeted for potential offloading are Brazilian midfielder Casemiro and French defender Raphael Varane, both of whom are perceived to be earning more than their current contributions warrant.
Varane, a former Real Madrid player, is nearing the end of his contract and is expected to be released in the summer. Meanwhile, interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia has emerged for the 32-year-old Casemiro, signaling a potential exit from Old Trafford.
The decision comes amid a challenging season for Manchester United under Erik ten Hag’s leadership, with the team currently sitting sixth in the Premier League and facing an unlikely prospect of Champions League participation next season.
The recent 1-1 draw against Burnley at Old Trafford was met with dissatisfaction from sections of the fanbase, reflecting the growing pressure on the team to perform consistently at a higher level.
Following the match, Ten Hag acknowledged the team’s struggles but also highlighted their strengths, noting their dynamic and entertaining style of play.
He emphasized the need to maintain control and improve performance in crucial moments, signaling a concerted effort to address the team’s challenges moving forward.
