Roy Keane humorously suggested that Manchester City’s players were “scared” of Manchester United after they emerged late for their warm-up ahead of the FA Cup final at Wembley.

City’s players came out of the tunnel at 2:25pm, a mere 15 minutes before the pitch had to be cleared for the pre-match ceremony.

Despite City being heavy favorites to win their second consecutive FA Cup, their delayed warm-up did not concern former City defender Joleon Lescott.

Lescott told ITV Sport: “I’m sure they were aware. I’m sure they do pre-activation before they come out and don’t come out cold.”

However, Keane saw this as a perfect moment for a pre-match quip, implying that City’s late warm-up might have been due to nerves about facing their local rivals.

He joked, “Maybe they’re scared!”

The former United captain’s remark prompted laughter from host Mark Pougatch and fellow pundits Ian Wright and Lescott. Keane acknowledged United’s underdog status, citing City’s recent dominance in English football.

Reports on Friday suggested that Erik ten Hag might be dismissed following the final.

Keane commented, “It’s crucial for players not to use that as an excuse. Despite speculation about the manager leaving, it shouldn’t affect their pride, belief, and conviction in their performance.”
