Former Manchester City star Cancelo has once again aimed criticism at his old club, this time taking a dig at fellow player Gvardiol in what some are calling a “salty” remark.

Former Manchester City player Joao Cancelo has once again stirred the pot with his recent remarks, this time targeting his parent club and one of their current players in a social media challenge. Cancelo, who is currently on loan at Barcelona, took part in a blind-ranking challenge on social media. In this challenge, participants rank randomly appearing players from one to ten without knowing who will appear next.

In a surprising turn of events, the first player revealed was Josko Gvardiol, who effectively replaced Cancelo at Manchester City. Instead of showing any niceties, Cancelo promptly ranked Gvardiol at the bottom of his list. He then proceeded to rank his top five players, listing the likes of Roberto Carlos, Frank Lampard, Antoine Griezmann, Hernan Crespo, and placing Chelsea’s Thiago Silva at the top.

This incident adds to the ongoing tension between Cancelo and Manchester City, a relationship fraught with disagreements over the years. Cancelo initially joined City in 2019 from Juventus in a record-breaking deal, becoming the most expensive right-back in Premier League history. Despite contributing to City’s Premier League victories in 2021 and 2022, he was loaned out to Bayern Munich during their treble-winning season.

Reports of a rift between Cancelo and City manager Pep Guardiola surfaced, with Cancelo accusing the club of being ungrateful and spreading lies about him. His return to Manchester with Bayern Munich in 2023 was met with jeers from City fans, although Cancelo has previously stated that he holds no grudges against the club.

City supporters have expressed their disappointment with Cancelo’s recent actions, with many taking to social media to voice their opinions. Some fans questioned the bitterness displayed by Cancelo, while others emphasized their satisfaction with Gvardiol’s performance, highlighting his importance to City’s defensive setup.

Despite Cancelo’s contract with Manchester City running until 2027, it seems improbable that he will reconcile with the club, given the strained relationship and recent controversies. Meanwhile, City continues their pursuit of success on the pitch, aiming for a historic fourth consecutive Premier League title and eyeing another FA Cup victory in the upcoming final against rivals United.
