Manchester United Open to Selling Entire First-Team Squad, Retaining Only Three Key Players
Manchester United is reportedly gearing up for a major overhaul this summer, as they are open to selling almost every player in their first-team squad except for three key individuals.
The club, currently occupying sixth place in the Premier League after a disappointing season with 12 losses in 34 games, is undergoing significant changes under new footballing management led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS. This transition has empowered new hires like Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox to make substantial changes across the board at Old Trafford.
While the future of coach Erik ten Hag remains uncertain, James Ducker of The Telegraph has indicated that nearly all United players are available for transfer. This move comes in the context of the club facing the prospect of missing out on Champions League football and implementing a 25% wage cut for players.
Notable names like Anthony Martial, Raphael Varane, and Brandon Williams are expected to depart on free transfers. The club is also open to offers for players such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek, Victor Lindelof, and Christian Eriksen. Even Casemiro, despite being viewed as dispensable, might require a significant offer due to his high wages.
While Marcus Rashford is not actively on the selling block, his recent form struggles mean United will consider bids, especially with interest from Paris Saint-Germain. Players like Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, and Antony could also be sold to generate funds, with Antony scoring his first goal of the season recently.
However, the report emphasizes that United considers young talents like Rasmus Hojlund, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho as untouchable and aims to build the team around them.
