Mason Greenwood releases significant statement regarding future plans before summer return to Manchester United

Mason Greenwood Issues Statement on Future Ahead of Return to Man Utd This Summer

Mason Greenwood has shared an update with Getafe fans as his season-long loan at the Spanish club comes to an end.

Greenwood addressed Getafe supporters, expressing his gratitude as his loan stint wraps up. His future has been a topic of intense speculation, with links to various clubs in Italy and Spain, as well as potential plans to stay at Manchester United for the upcoming season.

Greenwood has not featured for United since his arrest in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape, controlling behavior, and assault. The 22-year-old, who has consistently denied the accusations, had all charges dropped.

The forward has reportedly drawn interest from clubs like Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus, and two Premier League teams are also said to be interested. Getafe, where he spent the season on loan, had hoped to retain him.

However, Greenwood seems to have dismissed the possibility of staying with the La Liga club, as indicated by his farewell message on Instagram.

He wrote, “Incredibly grateful to the Getafe family and fans for an amazing season. Thank you for making me feel welcomed and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my teammates and club. A bittersweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you. I wish you all the best.”

During his time with Getafe, Greenwood made 36 appearances and scored ten goals. His final match for the club was a 2-1 loss to Mallorca.

Getafe’s sporting director, Torres, commented on Greenwood’s situation, saying, “Regarding Manchester United, from what we heard last week, if a good offer comes along, they would want to sell because he is not going to go back there. We’ll have to wait until the end of June. The people and the coach are very happy with him. I think he will remain with us for another season, or at least until January. He is a good footballer.”
