Ian Maatsen Addresses Chelsea Future with a Message to Enzo Maresca

Ian Maatsen Addresses Chelsea Future and Reminds Enzo Maresca of His Potential

Ian Maatsen has opened up about his uncertain future at Chelsea, despite having recently extended his contract with the club until January 2026.

Currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Maatsen has been making waves with his performances. He joined the German club in January after featuring minimally under Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, during the first half of the season despite a strong pre-season showing.

In Germany, the 22-year-old left-back has rediscovered the form he showcased at Burnley in the Championship. He has become a regular starter for Dortmund, playing every minute of their UEFA Champions League knockout stage matches.

Dortmund is interested in securing Maatsen permanently, with his £35 million release clause being a significant draw. However, Maatsen remains undecided about his future. When questioned about his plans for next season, he stated, “I still have a contract and after the summer we’re going to decide where my future is going to be.”

Maatsen also emphasized his goal at Dortmund, saying, “I know I came here to prove myself at the highest level and the highest stage, and that’s what I’m doing now.”

Maatsen’s future might still lie with Chelsea, particularly if Enzo Maresca is appointed as head coach. Recent reports suggest that Maresca favors a tactical approach that integrates full-backs into the midfield, which could make Maatsen a vital player for Chelsea.
