MALACIA INJURY BOMBSHELL: Manchester United’s Worst Fears Confirmed!

Manchester United Provide Significant Update on Tyrell Malacia’s Injury

Tyrell Malacia, Manchester United’s left-back, is not expected to return to action until October. The 24-year-old has been sidelined since May 2023 following two knee surgeries and is currently rehabilitating at the club’s Carrington training facility.

Initially, United anticipated Malacia’s return by January and ended Sergio Reguilon’s loan from Tottenham in preparation. Unfortunately, Malacia experienced a setback in his recovery.

Manager Erik ten Hag stated that while Malacia is progressing well, he is still not ready for match play and will need another two months before being fit for selection.

“Tyrell is in a good place now,” Ten Hag noted. “However, he is not here because I only brought players who could participate in games or team training. He is making progress and should be back in team training soon, but it will likely take two months before he is match-ready.”

Malacia was Ten Hag’s first signing for United, joining from Lyon for £14.6 million in July 2022. He was included in all 62 matchday squads for the 2022-23 season. The Netherlands international last played on June 14, 2023, in a Nations League match against Croatia.

Last season, Ten Hag faced a shortage of specialist left-backs, with Luke Shaw only playing 14 out of 52 matches due to injury. Shaw is expected to return to training next week after participating in England’s European Championship campaign.

In pre-season, 17-year-old Harry Amass has started at left-back against Arsenal and Real Betis in the United States, while 19-year-old Sam Murray played against Rosenborg and Rangers last month.
