Manchester City has been hit with a setback as their key player is poised to sit out of the Premier League match against Wolves.
Manchester City is facing a setback as one of their key players, Ederson, is expected to sit out the upcoming Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper had to be substituted at halftime during the recent 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest due to a shoulder injury from a collision with Nottingham’s Wily Boly.
Reports suggest that while the injury isn’t severe and Ederson should return before the season concludes, the Wolves game might be too soon for his recovery.
Ederson’s absence could be keenly felt by Manchester City as they chase a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title. Their unbeaten streak of 19 games, with 15 wins, has been impressive since their loss against Aston Villa in December.
Despite being one point behind league leaders Arsenal, with three games remaining but an extra game to play, Ederson’s contribution has been significant with 11 clean sheets in 30 league appearances this season. Since joining City in 2017, he has amassed 153 clean sheets in 329 matches across all competitions.
Reflecting on Manchester City’s previous encounter with Wolves this season, it was a mixed result for Pep Guardiola’s team. They suffered a 2-1 defeat away, with Ruben Dias’ own goal canceling out Kyle Walker’s equalizer.
Hwan Hee-chan’s goal secured the win for Wolves, ending City’s six-game winning streak at the time. However, this loss marked Wolves’ first victory against City in six games since December 2019. Despite their Champions League campaign ending in the quarterfinals, Manchester City remains focused on securing a domestic double this season.
